A few years ago, some scientists decided to research doppelgangers - people who look exactly like someone else. They discovered that the chances of finding someone in the world who matches up on eight key facial features as another, unrelated person is pretty unlikely - they put the probability at one in one trillion. However, a woman in Dublin was able to beat the odds and then some. Her name is Niamh Geaney and located not one, not two, but three people who looked almost identical to her. What's most crazy though is that two of them live in Dublin as well.
Using the site TwinStrangers.net, Niamh was able to locate her first doppelganger, a woman named Karen. She filmed their initial meeting and posted it on YouTube. On a local news show, she spoke about the encounter saying, "When I met Karen, my first doppelgänger, the first few hours we didn't really say much to each other. We [were] just looking at each other silently. It's cool. It's really cool, but it's weird."
Niamh then went to Italy, where she met her second doppelganger, Luisa. Then she met another Dubliner named Irene who looked so similar to her that they did a DNA test which showed that, remarkably, they are not related.
Niamh described how it feels having met people who look so much like her saying, "It’s a very strange experience to find yourself in, meeting someone that looks like you. It's unsettling but it's amazing at the same time. It really kicks you back a notch, because you think you're special and unique and there's no one in the world that's like you, and you meet someone who looks identical to you, and then you realize you're not as unique as you thought you were."
