The New Jersey State Park Service, a division of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, has announced that it is gearing up for the forthcoming spring and summer seasons by offering more than 800 part-time job opportunities. These openings span across the state's 50+ parks, forests, historic sites, and other recreation areas, which collectively cover over 452,000 acres of land.
DEP Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette shared the news, stating that applications are now being accepted for a variety of roles in preparation for the peak seasons. The available seasonal part-time positions include lifeguards, naturalists, history educators, general maintenance workers, visitor service assistants, and office staff.
This recruitment drive comes just as the state prepares to welcome the public to enjoy the plethora of outdoor activities its parks offer, such as hiking, camping, swimming, and fishing2. Notable locations managed by the New Jersey State Park Service include Allaire State Park, Bass River State Forest, and Belleplain State Forest, as well as the impressive 27,000-acre stretch from Sandy Hook in New Jersey to Breezy Point in New York City.
In a bid to attract a diverse range of applicants, the State Park Service is aiming to offer flexibility with some work shifts. This is particularly beneficial for students and teachers whose availability may be limited to weekends. In addition, the salary rates for all jobs have been increased for 2024, making these roles even more attractive to potential applicants.
