On Sunday night, February 1, the accomplished R&B singer was in the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 68th annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony. During the ceremony, Kehlani's "Folded" won the awards for "Best R&B Song" and "Best R&B Performance." The 30-year-old artist had been nominated several times over the years, but this is the first time she's ever won. After she basked in her success during her first speech, Kehlani decided to close out her second speech by sharing her thoughts on ICE.
"I hope that everybody is inspired to join together as a community of artists, and speak out against what’s going on… F**K ICE," she said while wearing an "ICE OUT" pin.
This is the second time Kehlani used her platform to speak out against ICE's practices across the country. Before she won the awards, the singer hit the red carpet, where she elaborated on her thoughts further.
“I really wanted to say f**k ICE," she said. "But I think they needed some couth on the carpet or something. I'm a little couthless ruthless. We're too powerful of a group to all be in the room at the same time and not make some kind of statement in our country.”
Kehlani has joined the growing group of musicians who have spoken out against ICE's ruthless rampage in states like Minnesota and California. Last week, Pusha T echoed the same phrase during his red carpet appearance at the Billboard Power 100, as well as Tyler, The Creator and others.
Congratulations to Kehlani for finally winning the Grammy Awards she deserves.
