NO doubt we are all experiencing battle fatigue from the negative slant on world news. It's everywhere! The world and our country have become a Reality TV show for the ghastly and absurd. America has become desensitized to a "train wreck" society that is reflected in our daily news cycles and lives. SO, when something good is happening, I have to write about it. We all have to celebrate it and it begins here at home.

The City of Atlantic City led by Mayor Marty Small Sr. want to shout from the mountaintops the summer 2024 Summer Work Program employing more than 300 local teenagers and young adults ranging from 14 to early 20's. Participants in the program are getting real-world experience at Atlantic City's Carnegie Building, as well at 18 outside agencies throughout Atlantic City, including City Hall. Notable partnerships coming together this summer include: The City of Atlantic City, the Atlantic County Office Of Workforce Development, The New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Authority (CRDA) and National Action Network (NAN) Tech World, a partner of Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Strengthening our workforce for generations to come, youth were involved learning various fields such as entrepreneurship, fashion design, podcasting, graphic design, coding and web design.

Participants in the paid program set goals for themselves at the beginning of the summer, then evaluated at the end to test skills learned. The Summer Work Program has tripled in size since last summer.

No doubt the news headlines and local bloggers alike want to report a crumbling society but here at home some good is happening. Our town is being built up from the youth, our leaders of tomorrow. being a part of the solution rather than the problem needs some notice here. Props to city leaders and the Mayor's office for overseeing this huge summer success story.

And as Marty Small Sr. says, "GREAT DAY in Atlantic City! Can we say GREAT DAY?!
